An earnings cycle stock is one that is experiencing a period of above-average growth as a result of an internal or external catalyst. According to Mr. John, the catalyst is generally a new product or technology, entrance into a new market or a change in the competitive dynamics in the industry. When the earnings cycle begins, sales and earnings grow faster than expected, and Mr. John aims to capture this anomaly.
