WILLIAM R. REED, JR. is Chief Operating Officer of National
Commerce Financial Corporation, a $21 billion financial
institution headquartered in Memphis, Tennessee. As Chief
Operating Officer of NCF, Mr. Reed is responsible for the
management, operation and expansion of the company's entire
banking operation, including facility design, training, and
staffing, as well as product development, product pricing
strategies and marketing programs. Mr. Reed is also responsible
for the company's electronic, Internet banking, tele-banking and
ATM initiatives; its bank consulting subsidiary, National
Commerce Bank Services; NBC Insurance Services; the company's
registered investment advisory subsidiary, Commerce Capital
Management, Inc., and the Trust and Wealth Management Group. Mr.
Reed also serves as a member of NCF's Executive Management
Committee and Asset/Liability Committee. Prior to the July 2000
merger of the former National Commerce Bancorporation (NCBC) and
CCB Financial Corporation, now NCF, Mr. Reed was Vice Chairman
and Director of NCBC and Chairman and Director of National Bank
of Commerce, NCBC's lead banking subsidiary. Mr. Reed joined NCF
as a management trainee in 1969 after graduation from The
University of Memphis with a BA in Economics. He subsequently
received a graduate degree in banking from The University of
Wisconsin School of Banking. Mr. Reed is active in numerous
civic, charitable and educational initiatives and has served as
chairman of the Community Foundation of Greater Memphis, Inc. and
on the boards of directors of the Memphis Zoological Society, The
Orpheum Theater and Junior Achievement of Memphis. Profile
