Mark A. Thierer is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of SXC Health Solutions Corp., a provider of pharmacy benefits management services and health care IT solutions. Under his leadership, SXC has achieved aggressive growth, taking the number one position onFortune’s 100 Fastest-Growing Companies list in 2011. Mr. Thierer has 30 years of experience in health care leadership and executive roles. He joined SXC in 2006 as President and Chief Operating Officer. He was subsequently named SXC’s CEO in 2008 and Chairman in 2011. From 2006 to 2011, Mr. Thierer achieved a 25-fold increase in shareholder value with annual revenue growth from $50 million to more than $4 billion, profit growth from $12 million to $170 million, and market capitalization expansion from $160 million to more than $4 billion. Before joining SXC, Mr. Thierer led the transformation of Physicians Interactive, a division of Allscripts Healthcare Solutions, Inc., a provider of electronic health records, e-prescribing and IT solutions for physicians. He also spent 10 years with CaremarkRx, now CVS Caremark Corporation, where he served as a corporate officer and key executive. As Senior Vice President, Industry Relations, he built executive-level supply chain relationships with pharmaceutical, biotech and generic drug companies, and established Caremark’s contracting relationships with major chain drug stores. Before Caremark, he launched his career with IBM, where he held positions of increasing responsibility in sales management in the company’s health industry vertical. Mr. Thierer serves on the board of directors of the Pharmaceutical Care Management Association and maintains active memberships in the National Council for Prescription Drug Programs, Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy, National Association of Chain Drug Stores, and the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society. He serves on the board of The Museum of Science and Industry, Chicago, and is an Adviser to the Jeffrey Pride Foundation for Pediatric Cancer Research. He is active in the Economic Club, The Executive’s Club of Chicago and CEOs Against Cancer. TWST: Would you please give us a history of SXC and an overview of your operations?
Mr. Thierer: The company has a long history in the pharmacy benefit management industry. SXC (SXCI)is one of the
