STEPHEN L. CHRYST is the President, CEO and Chairman of Anchor Bank and
Anchor Financial Corporation. He began his career as an Assistant
Cashier at The Bank of Lancaster, (S.C.) in 1969, where he was promoted
six months later to Assistant Vice President. In 1972, he joined
Wachovia Services/Wachovia Bank and Trust, where he sold Wachovia
processing services to correspondent banks in several Southern states.
Executive positions followed, among them: Vice President, Bank of
Montgomery (1973-1974); Vice President and Secretary, Anchor Bank
(1974-1977) and Director (1977-1979), Executive Vice President
(1979-1982). Since 1982 he has served in his current capacity. Mr.
Chryst holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Clemson University and is
a graduate of Louisiana State University's School of Banking of the
South. He is involved in civic organizations as a member of the
Administrative Board of the American Bankers Association Community
Bankers Council, the South Carolina Wildlife and Marine Fisheries
Advisory Board, the Board of Trustees for Conway Hospital, and is
Chairman of the Board of The Bankers Bank in Atlanta. A veteran of the
Vietnam War, Mr. Chryst is a recipient of many medals, including the
National Defense Medal, The Army Commendation Medals and The Bronze
