STEPHEN I. CHAZEN is the head of Corporate Development and the Chief
Financial Officer of Occidental Petroleum Corporation in Los Angeles. He
is responsible for Oxy's acquisition, divestiture and financial
activities. Mr. Chazen received a bachelor's degree in geology from
Rutgers College, a master's degree in finance from the University of
Houston, and a PhD in geology from Michigan State. He was employed by
Northrop Corporation at the Johnson Space Center as Laboratory Manager
from 1973 to 1977. He worked for Columbia Gas Development Corporation as
Director of Planning, Reservoir Engineering, and Project Evaluation from
1977 to 1981. From 1982 to 1994, he held various positions in the
investment banking division of Merrill Lynch, where his last position
was as Managing Director and Head of Corporate Finance. In 1994, he
joined Occidental as Executive Vice President, Corporate Development.
