Sam Katz serves as the CEO of Wellspring BioCapital Partners. Prior to
co-founding the firm in April 2004, he was the President of Wynnefield
Capital Advisors, Inc., a manager of two private equity co-investment
funds that has been an investor in early-stage biotechnology companies
in the Philadelphia area. He is also a co-founder and Director of the
Biotechnology Greenhouse of Southeastern Pennsylvania and is a Director
of the University City Science Center. Mr. Katz also served (from
2000-2003) as the CEO of Greater Philadelphia First, a civic
organization focused on growing the region as a knowledge-based economic
center. Mr. Katz has had extensive experience raising capital for a wide
range of projects, public infrastructure and private businesses. Mr.
Katz spent 19 years at Public Financial Management, Inc., where he
served as co-CEO. The firm was the nation's leading capital formation
and investment advisor to state and local governments. He has been a
candidate for Governor of Pennsylvania and Mayor of Philadelphia. Mr.
Katz is or has been a member of the Board of Directors of the Erie
Insurance Group (2000-2004), the Hershey Entertainment and Resort
Company (since 2000), and GCom2 Solutions, Inc., (since 2003) as well as
numerous charitable and civic organizations. Mr. Katz is a graduate of
