ROBERT BUCHAN – KINROSS GOLD CORPORATION (KGC)

ROBERT M. BUCHAN is President and CEO of Kinross Gold Corporation. He received a degree in Mining Engineering from Herriot-Watt University in Edinburgh in 1969 and a Master's in Mineral Economics from Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario in 1971. Following three years with a mining equipment manufacturer, he joined a leading Canadian brokerage company as a mining analyst. After four years with this company and another six with an institutional boutique, again specializing in mining-related research and financing, he left to participate in the formation of CMP Funds Management Ltd. This company raised over $1 billion for the Canadian resource industry in the period 1984-1990. In 1987 he participated in the creation of associated companies, DCC Equities Limited (President), a resource focused merchant banking company, and Dundee Capital Inc. (Vice-Chairman), a financial services company. In 1993 he initiated the creation of Kinross Gold Corporation, a company that has grown from 25,000 ounces of gold production at inception to the seventh largest primary producer of gold in the world as a result of the combination with TVX Gold Inc. and Echo Bay Mines Ltd.
