RICHARD C. ADKERSON is the President of Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold
Inc., one of the world's largest and lowest cost producers of copper and
gold. He also serves as co-Chairman, President and Chief Executive
Officer of McMoRan Exploration Co., a company engaged in oil and gas
exploration in the Gulf of Mexico. He graduated from Mississippi State
University with a BS degree with Highest Honors and an MBA degree. He
later completed the Advanced Management Program of the Harvard Business
School. Prior to joining Freeport-McMoRan in 1989, he was a Partner and
Managing Director in Arthur Andersen & Co., where he headed the firm's
Worldwide Oil and Gas Industry Practice. From 1976 to 1978, he was a
Professional Accounting Fellow with the Securities and Exchange
Commission in Washington, DC and a Presidential Exchange Executive. Mr.
Adkerson currently serves as a member of the Executive Committee and
Board of Directors of the Development Foundation of Mississippi State
University, where he also serves on Advisory Boards of the College of
Business and Industry and the Agribusiness Institute. He is a member of
the Board of Visitors of The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer
Foundation; the Board of Trustees of St. Martin's Episcopal School; the
Development Board of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes of New
Orleans; the Board of Inroads and the Advisory Board of The Crosby
