PETER CARTWRIGHT is Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and President of
Calpine Corp. He is a recognized leader in the US power industry. Having
served the power industry for more than 40 years in Asia, Latin America,
Europe and the United States, he has cultivated a unique and highly
effective management approach. Mr. Cartwright founded Calpine in 1984 to
participate in the emerging independent power industry. He is an
Engineering graduate of Princeton and Columbia Universities. He served
as an Officer in the U.S. Navy Civil Engineer Corps, and was involved in
building nuclear power plants in Japan, Taiwan, India and Mexico for
General Electric Company. In 1979, he left GE to start a western
regional office for the New York-based architect-engineering firm, Gibbs
& Hill. Mr. Cartwright is a professional Engineer licensed in New York
and California. He appears frequently in the national media, speaking
about the industry and the company. He is considered a visionary in the
