MATTHEW BERLER is a Managing Director in Morgan Stanley's Equity
Research Department. He serves as both the Senior Analyst covering the
North American paper and forest products stocks and the Global Team
Leader. He presently follows the 20 largest publicly traded North
American paper and forest products companies. Mr. Berler has been
acknowledged as an Institutional Investor 'All Star' Paper and Forest
Products Analyst in every year since 1992 and has been covering the
sector since 1987 ' the first six years with Donaldson, Lufkin &
Jenrette and with Morgan Stanley since early 1994. Prior to being a
Paper Analyst, he served as a Research Associate at the Institute for
Defense Analyses, in Alexandria, Virginia, conducting National Security
Studies for the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the Office of the Secretary of
Defense. Mr. Berler received his Master's in Business Administration
from Harvard University and his Bachelor of Arts from Cornell University
with a major in History. Mr. Berler is a recent President of the New
