NADER F. DAREHSHORI began his career with Houghton Mifflin Company in
1966 as a Sales Representative in the College Division. He subsequently
served in sales management positions in the College Division's
Midwestern Regional office and was appointed a College Division Vice
President in 1984. He was promoted to Vice President and Director of the
College Division in 1986, and in 1987 he was elected Senior Vice
President , College Division. Mr. Darehshori was promoted to Executive
Vice President in April 1989 and he was elected to the Board of
Directors and named its Vice Chairman in December 1989. He was elected
Chairman and CEO of the Company in April 1990 and assumed the title of
President in October 1991. Mr. Darehshori is a director of the CGU
Insurance Group and Chairman of the Massachusetts Business Roundtable.
He also serves on the Board of the Boston Public Library Foundation and
the Association of American Publishers, and is a trustee of Wellesley
College, the WGBH Foundation, and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Mr.
Darehshori was an elementary school teacher in Iran prior to attending
the University of Wisconsin, where he received a bachelor's degree in
1966. He has also received the honorary degree of Doctor of Commercial
