MARK R. CUMMINS is Chief Investment Officer and Lead Equity Manager at
Harleysville Group Inc. In addition, as Executive Vice President and
Treasurer, he is responsible for the treasury, investor relations and
Harleysville Asset Management L.P. Mr. Cummins joined the firm in 1992
after 10 years at Selective Insurance. He earned a Bachelor's degree in
Accounting from Susquehanna University in 1978 and an MBA in Finance
from Fairleigh Dickinson University in 1984. He became a CPA in 1980
and earned the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation in 1987 and
the Certified Cash Manager (CCM) designation in 1990. In addition, he
completed the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School's AICPCU '
Advanced Executive Education Program in 1999. Under Mr. Cummins'
direction, The Money Manager Review ranked Harleysville as its #1
manager of U.S. Equity Large-Cap Blend for five-year returns ending
December 31, 2000 and September 30, 2000. Harleysville has also been
ranked by Nelson's as #1 on the list of The World's Best Money Managers
in the category of U.S. Large-Cap Growth & Value Equity for the three-
year periods ending December 31, 1997, March 31 1998, June 30, 1998,
September 30, 1998 and December 31, 1998. Harleysville was ranked the
#1 manager in the same category for the five-year returns ending
December 31, 1998. Mr. Cummins has appeared live several times on
CNBC's Taking Stock segment of Street Signs. He also has appeared in
other CNBC segments such as The Edge, Squawk Box, This Morning's
Business and Sease on Stocks. In addition, Mr. Cummins has been
featured in several financial publications. He has been a featured
speaker at NAMIC's 105th Annual Convention, Pittsburgh 1-Day, NALL's
Annual Investment Conference and at The Investment Management Institutes
' Management of Insurance Assets Conference. At the National
Association of Independent Insurers Executive Roundtable Seminar Mr.
Cummins served as a facilitator of a roundtable titled Investing
Planning. He currently serves on the Board of Directors and Audit
Committee of Harleysville Savings Bank as a member and former Chairman
of the Financial Management Committee of the Pennsylvania Association of
Mutual Insurance Companies, and on the Investment Committee of the
National Association of Independent Insurers. He also has served as a
Director and Chairman of the Investment Committee of the Selective
Federal Credit Union and on the membership committee of the Association
of Publicly Traded Companies. Mr. Cummins community activities include
serving on the Board of Directors of the North Penn United Way, as well
as the Chairman for the 2001 campaign. He also serves as Director and
Treasurer for the Foundation for the North Penn United Way. In
addition, he chairs Harleysville's Charitable Contributions Committee.
Mr. Cummins was the former Secretary and an Executive Committee Member
of the Souderton Area International Student Exchange Council. He is a
member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accounts, New
Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants Association of Insurance
and Financial Analysts, Association for Financial Professionals,
Association for Investment Management and Research, New York Society of
Security Analysts, Insurance Investment Officers Group, National
Investor Relations Institute, Financial Executives Institute, and the
