LAWRENCE M. KIMBROUGH assumed his current role as President and Chief
Executive Officer of First Charter Corporation in 1986. A native and
lifelong resident of Davidson, North Carolina, Mr. Kimbrough earned a
Bachelor's degree from Davidson College in 1963. After two years in the
Army, he studied law at Duke University, graduating in 1968. Following
law school, Mr. Kimbrough joined the Trust Department at First Union. He
then moved to Piedmont Bank & Trust in Davidson, where he remained as
head of the Trust Department until the bank was acquired by First Union
in 1983. The following year, Mr. Kimbrough joined First Charter, once
again leading the Trust Department. Within two years, he had risen to
President and CEO, and since then has piloted First Charter through a
series of acquisitions that have made the company the fifth largest bank
headquartered in North Carolina. As of December 31, 2004, First Charter
assets totaled $4.4 billion. Mr. Kimbrough serves on the Boards of
several organizations, including the Cabarrus County Community
Foundation, Davidson College, Cannon School and The Pines at Davidson. Profile
