JOSEPH H. PYNE has served as President and Chief Executive Officer of
Kirby Corporation since 1995. He has served as a Director since 1988, as
Executive Vice President from 1992 to 1995 and was President of Kirby
Inland Marine from 1984 to 1995. He is a graduate of the University of
North Carolina, class of 1970. Upon graduating from college, Mr. Pyne
entered the United States Navy as a line officer, and served in various
capacities as a Naval Officer until 1977. In 1977, Mr. Pyne left the
Navy and joined Northrop Services, Inc., a subsidiary of The Northrop
Corporation. In 1978, Mr. Pyne joined Kirby Inland Marine, a wholly
owned subsidiary of Kirby Corporation. Mr. Pyne has served on the
Executive Committee of the Board of Directors of the American Waterways
Operators, Inc. and West of England Ship Owner's Mutual Insurance
Association. Mr. Pyne is a past Chairman of the Towing Advisory Safety
Committee, is a member of the American Bureau of Shipping, has served as
a member of the Inland Waterways Users Board, the Advisory Board of the
Sea Borne Conservation Program, is the past Chairman of the Board of
Directors of the Clean Channel Association, the Chairman of the National
Waterways Foundation, and is a member of the World President's
