JAMES T. HACKETT was elected President and Chief Executive Officer of
Ocean Energy, Inc., upon its merger with Seagull Energy Corporation in
March 1999, and assumed the additional duties of Chairman in January
2000. Previously, he served as Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and
President of Seagull Energy Corporation. He joined Seagull from Duke
Energy, where he led its Energy Services Division as President. Prior to
that assignment, he was Executive Vice President of Pan Energy when the
company was merged with Duke Power to create Duke Energy. He also served
as President of the Gathering and Processing Division of Dynegy, Inc.
His energy experience includes positions in engineering, finance and
marketing with Burlington Resources and Amoco Oil Company. Mr. Hackett
holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Illinois and a
Master's in Business Administration from Harvard University. He serves
on the Boards of New Jersey Resources Corp., Kaiser Aluminum Corp.,
Temple-Inland, Inc. and Fluor Corporation, the American Petroleum
Institute, the Domestic Petroleum Council, and the US Oil and Gas
Association, and is a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers. Profile
