JACK A. SHAW is President and Chief Executive Officer of Hughes
Electronics Corporation and a member of the Hughes Board of Directors.
He was elected Chief Executive Officer and a member of the Board of
Directors in May 2001, and President in November 2001. Previously, Mr.
Shaw was Corporate Senior Executive Vice President of Hughes,
responsible for the Enterprise Sector, which includes Hughes Network
Systems and PanAmSat Corporation, both units of Hughes. Prior to that
position, to which he was named in January 2000, Mr. Shaw was Chairman
and Chief Executive Officer of Hughes Network Systems. Mr. Shaw joined
Hughes in 1987 when Hughes acquired M/A-COM Telecommunications, of which
he was Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, and renamed it Hughes
Network Systems. Mr. Shaw had held senior management positions with
companies that include ITT Space Communications, Inc., and Digital
Communications Corporation. He graduated from Purdue University with a
BS in Electrical Engineering in 1962, and he attended the Sloan School
of Management at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Profile
EDDY W. HARTENSTEIN is Corporate Senior Executive Vice President of
Hughes Electronics Corporation and a member of the Hughes Electronics
Executive and Management Committees, the company's two top leadership
groups. Mr. Hartenstein is also Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of
DIRECTV, Inc., and Chairman of DIRECTV Global. Prior to the position of
Corporate Senior Executive Vice President, to which he was named in
January 2000, Mr. Hartenstein was Corporate Senior Vice President of
Hughes Electronics and President of DIRECTV. He headed DIRECTV from its
inception in 1990. Between 1984 and 1987, Mr. Hartenstein served as
President of Equatorial Communications Services Company in Mountain
View, California, now a division of GTE. Prior to joining Equatorial,
Mr. Hartenstein was Vice President of Hughes Communications' Galaxy
program from 1981-1984. Mr. Hartenstein joined Hughes Aircraft Company
in 1972. Before transferring to Hughes Communications in 1981, he held a
succession of engineering, operations, and program management positions
at Hughes' Space and Communications Company and NASA's Jet Propulsion
Laboratory. Mr. Hartenstein received Bachelor's degrees in Aerospace
Engineering and Mathematics from California State Polytechnic
University, Pomona, in 1971 and 1972, respectively. He received an MS
degree in Applied Physics from Cal Tech in 1974 while a Hughes Aircraft
