Jose R. Fernandez is President, Chief Executive Officer, Vice Chairman of the board and Director of Oriental Financial Group Inc., including Oriental Bank, positions he has held since 2004. He also is Chairman and President of Oriental’s other subsidiaries: Oriental Financial Services, Oriental Insurance and Caribbean Pension Consultants. In 2011, Mr. Fernandez was named to the Federal Reserve Bank of New York’s new Community Depository Institutions Advisory Council, which provides insight to the New York Fed from the perspective of community depository institutions. Since joining Oriental Financial Group, Inc. in 1991, Mr. Fernandez has managed each of the group’s core businesses. He played a major role in the company becoming a leader in wealth management, trust and retirement services in Puerto Rico. Since becoming CEO in 2004, he also has focused on developing Oriental Financial Group Inc.’s commercial banking platform. This led to the successful acquisitions of Eurobank in 2010 and Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria’s operations in Puerto Rico in 2012, which have helped make Oriental Financial Group Inc. one of Puerto Rico’s leading banking and financial services companies today. Mr. Fernandez holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Notre Dame and a Masters of Business Administration, with a concentration in finance, from the University of Michigan. He is Vice Chairman of the board of trustees of Universidad del Sagrado Corazon in Santurce, Puerto Rico, Member of the business advisory board of the University of Notre Dame’s Mendoza College of Business, Member of the advisory board for the Conservation Trust of Puerto Rico and Director of Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico, or Puerto Rico Museum of Art.
