Dr. Marc H. Hedrick is President and CEO of Cytori Therapeutics Inc. Dr. Hedrick was trained as a general, vascular and craniofacial surgeon who left his clinical practice and tenured faculty appointment at UCLA in 2003 after founding StemSource, Inc. StemSource later became Cytori, a leading U.S. public company specializing in stem cell therapies. Previously, Dr. Hedrick was a tenured Associate Professor of Surgery and Pediatrics at the University of California, Los Angeles — UCLA. While at UCLA, Dr. Hedrick also directed the Laboratory of Regenerative Bioengineering and Repair. Dr. Hedrick’s research encompassed many areas, including tissue engineering, stem cell biology and fetal surgery. Dr. Hedrick has published over 200 scientific abstracts, papers and book chapters, and received research funding from a variety of private and governmental agencies, including the National Institutes of Health. In addition, he has 23 published or issued patents around the world, and both he and his work have been featured prominently in numerous leading periodicals and media outlets. Dr. Hedrick obtained his undergraduate degree from Southern Methodist University, his medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School and his Master of Business Administration from the UCLA Anderson School of Management. He completed residencies in plastic surgery at UCLA, and general and vascular surgery at the University of Oklahoma. He has also completed fellowships in craniofacial surgery at University of Pittsburgh and fetal surgery at the University of California, San Francisco.
