HUNTER JACKSON, Ph.D., Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, has held
his current positions since 1986. He was appointed to the additional
position of President in January 1994. Prior to co-founding NPS
Pharmaceuticals, he was an Associate Professor in the Department of
Anatomy at the University of Utah School of Medicine. Before joining the
University of Utah faculty he received postdoctoral training in the
Department of Neurosurgery, University of Virginia Medical School. Dr.
Jackson received a bachelors degree in English from the University of
Illinois and a Ph.D. in Psychobiology from Yale University. He has more
than 20 years of research experience in the neurosciences and is the
author of numerous articles and invited reviews in his field. Dr.
Jackson's research focus has been on regulation of synapse formation in
the brain and the discovery and characterization of novel compounds
affecting synaptic transmission of neuronal signals. He is a co-inventor
on a pioneering patent dealing with calcium channel blocking compounds
from spider toxins which was issued to the University of Utah and has
been exclusively licensed to NPS. He is also a co-inventor on other
pending patent applications filed by NPS alone and in conjunction with
corporate collaborators. Dr. Jackson has lived in Salt Lake City for 16
years and is the father of four young children. His wife, Dr. Lynne
Kerr, is a Pediatric Neurologist at Primary Children's Medical Center. Profile
