Gregory Yurek – American Superconductor Corporation (amsc)

DR. GREGORY J. YUREK, President, Chief Executive Officer, and Chairman of the Board, founded American Superconductor Corporation in April 1987 with three fellow MIT professors. Immediately before signing on with American Superconductor as Chief Technical Officer in August 1988, Dr. Yurek served as a consultant to the firm, with responsibilities for overseeing the transfer of technology from MIT for establishing the company's research and development programs and creating strategic alliances. From 1976 to 1988, Dr. Yurek was co-Director of the H.H. Uhlig Corrosion Laboratory at MIT, where he was Professor of Materials Science and Engineering. Prior to joining the faculty at MIT, Dr. Yurek was a Research Scientist in the Metals and Ceramics Division of the Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Dr. Yurek has consulted extensively for the petrochemical, aerospace, nuclear, automotive and chemical industries in the area of high-temperature materials and corrosion. He has more than 50 scientific and technical publications to his credit, along with eight US patents issued in his name. Dr. Yurek is past Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Council on Superconductivity for American Competitiveness (CSAC). He is the 1996 recipient of the McFarland Award for achievement in metallurgy at Pennsylvania State University. He also received the Award of Merit from Japan's Science and Technology Agency. He received his PhD in Metallurgical Engineering from Ohio State University and obtained his BS and MS degrees in Metallurgy from Pennsylvania State University. Profile
