GERALD FELS is Executive Vice President and a Director of The Commerce
Group, Inc. He joined the company in 1975 as CFO and is directly
responsible for overseeing all of the financial operations and the
management of investments of the firm. Mr. Fels is Treasurer and a
Director of American Nuclear Insurers, which is a voluntary association
of insurers providing protection against hazards arising in connection
with the operation of nuclear facilities. He is also an advisory
committee member of several investment funds managed by Conning &
Company. Mr. Fels earned an MBA from Babson College and completed his
undergraduate studies at Nichols College. He was enrolled to practice
before the Internal Revenue Service in 1967. Mr. Fels is also a CPA. He
is Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Nichols College and Treasurer of
both Nichols Academy and the Webster-Dudley Boys and Girls Club. Profile
