EDWARD J. CALKINS is Managing Director of Great Lakes Advisors. He is
the owner of the firm and is the architect of the company's value equity
approach. Mr. Calkins leads the equity investment approach and the asset
allocation work on balanced portfolios in addition to managing client
relationships. He started his career at Continental Bank in 1983 after
graduating with an MM degree (with distinction) from Northwestern's
Kellog Graduate School of Management in 1982. Mr. Calkins also holds a
BS degree (with honors) from St. Louis University. He is a Chartered
Financial Analyst and a member of the Association for Investment
Management and Research and the Investment Analysts Society of Chicago,
for which he has served as chairman of the Consumer Analysts Industry
Subgroup. Mr. Calkins currently serves on the DePaul University Finance
Advisory Board. In addition, he has been a guest speaker for the
