DAVID R. BETHUNE has been Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of
Atrix Laboratories, Inc., since August 1999. Since undertaking
this position, he has transformed the company from a dental
products focus to drug delivery and drug development focus. He
has been a Director of the company since 1995. Mr. Bethune is a
veteran in the pharmaceutical industry, having started as a
medical sales representative some 37 years ago. He retired after
31 years as head of American Cyanamid's global healthcare
business in 1994. He has since returned to active service. Prior
to joining Atrix he was President and COO of IVAX Corporation
from 1997-1998; President and CEO of Aesgen, Inc., from
1995-1996; Group Vice President of American Cyanamid Company's
global healthcare business from 1992-1995; President of Lederle
Laboratories from 1987-1992 and President of G.D. Searle, North
America from 1983-1987. Mr. Bethune has a Bachelor's degree in
Accounting and Economics from Lenoir-Rhyne College and a Master's
degree in Executive Management from Columbia University Graduate
