DAVID BAILEY joined STAAR Surgical Company on December 20, 2000, as
President and Chief Executive Officer and was elected Chairman of the
Board on January 12, 2001. Prior to joining STAAR, Mr. Bailey served as
Global President of CIBA Vision Corporation's surgical business unit
based in Atlanta. As a member of that company's Senior Executive
Committee, Mr. Bailey was involved in the management of a business with
revenues in excess of $1 billion and employing over 6,000 people. From
April 1995 through May 1999, he served on the global management Boards
of both Bausch & Lomb and Chiron Vision. In 1993, he was the European
Managing Director of Johnson & Johnson, Inc.'s European professional
sector, with operating responsibility for the Iolab ophthalmic business,
including both medical devices and pharmaceuticals. He completed his
formal education in the United Kingdom, obtaining a Master's degree from
Durham University and a Bachelor of Arts degree with honors from York
