CHRISTOPHER GEORGAKIS, Chief Executive Officer of Excel Maritime
Carriers, Ltd., has two decades of shipping experience and joined Excel
Maritime following six years with privately owned, London-based Sea
Challenger Maritime Ltd., a subsidiary of Belmont Shipping Ltd. While he
was with Sea Challenger, Mr. Georgakis managed all aspects of shipping
operations and contracted for transportation of cargoes such as steel,
grains, fertilizers and cement in amounts exceeding 2.5 million dwt
annually. Prior to that, he served for three years with a privately
held, London-based shipping group, where he managed the commercial
department handling 22 dry bulk vessels and working with regional
offices on all operational and financial matters. He joined his family's
London-based shipping operations when he was 19, progressing eventually
to Chartering Manager. In 1990 he assumed responsibility for the group's
shipbuilding activities in Spain and Greece, including raising funds for
new buildings. Mr. Georgakis holds a BSc in Business Administration,
magna cum laude, from United States International University (Europe).
He and his family have relocated from London to Athens. Profile
