Gil Baumgarten is CEO and CIO of Segment Wealth Management, LLC. Mr. Baumgarten is a 30-year veteran of the securities and investment industry. After beginning his career at the venerable E. F. Hutton in the early 1980s, Mr. Baumgarten became a top producer for UBS and Citigroup Smith Barney. Mr. Baumgarten is a two-time recipient of the Winners Circle list of top 1,000 advisers in America, given to the best financial advisers in the United States, and Mr. Baumgarten has also been ranked byBarron’s as one of the 35 best advisers in Texas. Mr. Baumgarten is a frequent guest commentator on Bloomberg Radio and hosted his own radio talk show called “Dollars and Sense.” Mr. Baumgarten is also a perennial recipient of theTexas Monthly magazine Five Star adviser award, which is based on an independent study of client satisfaction. Having participated as one of six beta testers in a national UBS program on all-ETF portfolios, Mr. Baumgarten is one of only a handful of professional money managers with a 10-year ETF track record. Mr. Baumgarten is also an avid outdoorsman, having traveled the world hunting and fishing. Mr. Baumgarten excels at sports and activities involving precision. He was his university’s billiard champion, and likes golf, archery, darts, skeet and marksmanship. Mr. Baumgarten is an award-winning woodworker, specializing in a particular art form called segmentation, from which the firm’s name is derived. Segmentation is the assembly of various species of wood, cut to fit in a precise pattern. This precision extends to Mr. Baumgarten’s investment strategies, where risk components and financial strategies are added and subtracted from client accounts with the same attention to detail. Mr. Baumgarten and his wife, Sue, are active members of First Presbyterian Church in Houston. They are also the former resident houseparents of a foster-care facility for pregnant teens. Mr. Baumgarten and Sue are present and past board members and volunteers of numerous charities including: Young Life, Young Lives, Coastal Conservation Association, Lifehouse, Star of Hope, Lamar High School Alumni Association board and others.
