Bryan Scott Smith has been the President and Chief Operating Officer of
Sonic since April 1997 and a Sonic director since its organization in
1997. Mr. Smith also serves as a director and executive officer of all
of Sonic's subsidiaries. After many years of working in all facets of
automobile retailing and management, Mr. Smith was promoted to General
Manager of Town & Country Ford in November 1992 at which time the
dealership received many awards for customer service and sales. After
his appointment to President and Chief Operating Officer of Sonic, Mr.
Smith concentrated a majority of his efforts on growth, operations and
manufacturer relations. Mr. Smith put together what he calls 'the best
team of automotive specialists, customer service professionals and
financial experts in the automotive industry.' Wall Street agreed. In
1998, Sonic was the second biggest gainer on the New York Stock
