Jeffry Sterba is President and Chief Executive Officer of American Water Works Company, Inc., the largest publicly traded U.S. water and wastewater utility company. Mr. Sterba brings more than 30 years of operational experience and industry knowledge to the company. Before joining American Water Works in 2010, Mr. Sterba served as Chairman and CEO of PNM Resources, Inc., the parent company of PNM, Texas-New Mexico Power Company and First Choice Power. He serves as Non-Executive Chairman of PNM Resources. Since joining PNM Resources in 1977, he held a succession of positions including Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Senior Vice President-Bulk Power Services, Senior Vice President-Asset Restructuring, Senior Vice President-Retail Electric & Water Services and Vice President-Revenue Management. From 1998 to 2000, Mr. Sterba was Executive Vice President of United States Enrichment Corporation, a global energy company in Maryland. He is a nationally recognized thought leader in the areas of energy policy, climate change legislation, renewable energy and sustainability. Mr. Sterba attended Washington University in St. Louis, earning a bachelor’s degree and completing postgraduate work in economics, and was accepted as a Ph.D. candidate at The University of Chicago.
