Stratis Sarantinos was elected Chief Executive Officer of NBG Asset Management M.F.M.C. in February 2012. Since then, the company sustained a double-digit growth rate in profits and ranked eighth on earnings before tax in the Greek financial sector for the years 2012 through 2013, as compiled by the leading independent Greek business consulting company ICAP. In 2013 and 2014, articles in The Wall Street Journal ranked the company’s flagship fixed income fund top performing bond fund in the world. Prior, since 2007, he worked at the National Bank of Greece as a proprietary trader, utilizing an algorithmic trend-following CTA model. The channel breakout approach was applied for price forecasting, tied to market cycles for timing to determine specific entry and exit points. The money management algorithm employed allowed profits to run while cutting losses short. This was achieved by determining appropriate market-adjusted unit sizes and trading in multiple units. In September 2000, he was elected Chief Executive Officer at the Bank of Cyprus Asset Management Company. From 1995 to 1998, he worked at Citibank in London as a proprietary derivatives trader. Between 1993 and 1995, he worked as a swaps trader at Barclays Bank, specializing in CHF derivative products. He commenced his career at Merrill Lynch in 1992 as a swaps trader in JPY, AUD, CAD and NZD. Stratis Sarantinos earned a Ph.D. in computer science in 1992 from Queen Mary College, University of London with a specialization in artificial intelligence and a B.S. with honors in computer science in 1988 from the University of Cardiff. His doctoral research was published in full in various books and prestigious refereed international conferences.
