Robert L. Smialek

ROBERT L. SMIALEK, President and CEO of Applied Innovation Inc., is a
veteran executive officer with more than 25 years’ experience leading
complex technology and industrial businesses. Mr. Smialek was appointed
President and Chief Executive Officer of Applied Innovation in July
2000. Prior to joining AI, Mr. Smialek served as Chairman, President and
Chief Executive Officer of Insilco Corporation, a $600-million
diversified manufacturing company producing electronic components for
the telecommunications industry and other specialized components. He has
also served as President and Chief Operating Officer of several
divisions of Siebe, Plc (now Invensys), a global leader in industrial
controls and one of the largest publicly traded companies in the United
Kingdom. Mr. Smialek spent 18 years as an executive with General
Electric, including several years as General Manager, Manufacturing and
Technology Operations, for GE Medical Systems Group. He serves on the
Board of Directors of Coors Tek (NASDAQ: CRTK) and General Cable (NYSE:
BGC). He holds PhD, MS and BS degrees in Materials Science from Case
Western Reserve University. He also holds four patents.
