Matthew J. Cox is President and CEO of Matson, Inc., and also serves on the board of directors. In addition to his Matson responsibilities, Mr. Cox is on the board of SSAT, a stevedoring joint venture in which Matson owns 35%. Prior to Matson, Mr. Cox had 15 years of experience in the transportation industry, 12 of which were spent at American President Lines, Ltd. From 1999 to 2001, he held executive posts at Distribution Dynamics, Inc.; he was the company’s Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at the time he joined Matson. From 1987 to 1999, Mr. Cox held positions of increasing responsibility at APL, covering both financial and operational aspects of the company, including Vice President, refrigerated container market; Managing Director, Middle East, Africa, Indian Subcontinent Region Dubai, United Arab Emirates; and Director, financial support services. Mr. Cox serves on the board of the Standard Club and the Children’s Hospital of Oakland. Mr. Cox has a bachelor’s in accounting and finance from the University of California, Berkeley, and is a certified public accountant; he is also a graduate of the Harvard Business School Advanced Management Program.
