Mack I. Whittle

MACK I. WHITTLE JR. is President and Chief Executive Officer of The
South Financial Group, Inc., and Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of
Carolina First Bank. Prior to The South Financial Group he was Senior
Vice President and Regional Officer for NCNB from 1/82-5/86; Vice
President and City Executive, Bankers Trust from 1979-1/82; Trust
Officer and Vice President Commercial Business Development, Bankers
Trust from 1974-1979. He received a BS from the University of South
Carolina and an MBA from the University of South Carolina he attended
Louisiana State University Banking School of the South.
