John C. Hunter

JOHN C. HUNTER III is Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of
Solutia Inc. Mr. Hunter joined Monsanto in 1969 at the Texas City, Texas
facility of the former Monsanto Polymers and Petrochemicals Company
serving as Engineer and in 1972 as Senior Engineer, process technology.
In 1976 he was transferred to the Houston, Texas, office as sales
specialist and in 1977 joined the former Monsanto Chemical Intermediates
Company as Senior Sales Specialist at the Chicago, office. In 1979 he
was relocated to the St. Louis World Headquarters as Planning Manager,
process chemicals. In 1983 he joined the former Monsanto Industrial
Chemicals Company as business director, process chemicals, specialty
chemicals unit. In 1986 Mr. Hunter became Director of Sales for the
Specialty Chemicals Division of Monsanto Chemical Company. In 1987 he
joined the Fibers Division of MCC as Director, nylon fiber products and
in 1988 was named Business Director, nylon. He was appointed Vice
President and General Manager, Asia-Pacific, MCC in July 1989. In March
1993 he became Vice President and General Manager, Fibers Division and
Asia-Pacific for The Chemicals Group, an operating unit of Monsanto
Company. Mr. Hunter became President of the Fibers Business Unit for
Monsanto in February 1995. He was named President and Chief Operating
Officer of Solutia in September 1997, became President and Chief
Executive Officer in May 1999, and assumed his present position December
1, 1999. Mr. Hunter is a member of the Board of Directors of Missouri
Baptist Hospital, the President’s Advisory Board of Georgia Tech, and
the Penford Corporation Board of Directors. Mr. Hunter graduated from
the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1969 with a BS degree in Chemical
Engineering and from the University of Houston at Clear Lake City in
1977 with an MBA degree. From 1970 to 1972 he served in the United
States Army, achieving the rank of Lieutenant in the Chemical Corps.
