Gaylord G. Lindal, President of Viceroy Homes Ltd., is one of the
pioneers of the Canadian home manufacturing industry. After growing up
in Winnipeg and attending the University of California at Los Angeles
and the University of Manitoba, he moved to Toronto in 1951. After
gaining construction experience as a home builder in Oshawa and a dealer
for Colonial Homes Ltd., he founded Viceroy Homes in 1955. In 1986
Viceroy became a public company, listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
In January 1997, the Japanese External Trade Organization awarded the
prestigious JETRO Chairman's Award to Mr. Lindal on behalf of Viceroy
Homes ' only the fourth Canadian ever to receive this significant
Japanese honor ' a commendation for commitment and leadership in the
