RICHARD VILLARS, Vice President, Storage Systems Research, is a senior
member of the team of analysts in storage hardware, storage software,
servers and networking that develops IDC’s viewpoint on the evolution of
storage networking and storage virtualization. This team delivers market
and technological forecasts for Fibre Channel, iSCSI, FICON and storage
area network years at IDC tracking the emergence of network and storage
technologies as well as advising companies on the impact of networking
on existing IT markets. He launched IDC research efforts on Ethernet,
Fibre Channel, TCP/IP, storage area networks, network management
software and directory services. Mr. Villars is a frequent speaker at
industry and Wall Street conferences. He has testified about the impact
of e-business on small business before the U.S. Senate and spoke about
the influence of B2B on high tech manufacturing supply chains. He is
also co-author of the book eCommerce for Dummies published by Hungry
Minds, Inc. Mr. Villars has a bachelor of science degree in foreign
service from Georgetown University with a concentration in science,
technology and international affairs.
