J. Iain Smith

J. Iain Smith is Senior Vice President for Gabelli Asset Management and
the Portfolio Manager of the Energy Plus+ portfolios. He has been
investing in energy and related sectors for eight years, six of these in
hedged strategies. Prior to rejoining Gabelli, Mr. Smith was the
founder and general partner of the Grove Energy Fund, LP, the
predecessor of Energy Plus+. From mid-1997 through 1999, he was
Managing Director at Eastgate Management, an energy hedge fund,
directing the firm’s fundamental and technical research. Mr. Smith
started his investment career as an oil services analyst, first at
Gabelli & Company, Inc., and later at Rodman & Renshaw, Inc. He earned
an MBA from Columbia Business School, graduating Beta Gamma Sigma, and a
BSc with honors in chemistry from Loughborough University,
