Andrew Griffin graduated from the University of Southampton in 1987 with a degree in electronic engineering, and he gained work experience with Royal Philips Electronics in France and GEC Telecommunications in the U.K. while working for his degree. He then spent 18 months working on parallel processor design for a custom hardware/software consultancy. To gain a financial qualification, Mr. Griffin joined Deloitte (now PwC) in London to study for the U.K. Chartered Accountants exams, and he qualified as an ACA in 1992. He then spent two years working on financial modeling assignments with the management consultancy division. In 1994, Mr. Griffin joined NatWest Securities as a European Engineering Analyst, and he subsequently worked at UBS and Robertson Stephens before joining the European technology research team at Merrill Lynch to be one of the first European Analysts to focus on semiconductor stocks. Mr. Griffin was then made Coordinator of Merrill’s global semiconductor research efforts and Head of the European technology research team. Mr. Griffin was a named Analyst – ranking between runner-up and first – in the Institutional Investor rankings for European semiconductor analysts from 2000 to 2006. In 2007 his coverage responsibility changed from semiconductors to communications technology, covering companies such as Nokia, Ericsson and Alcatel-Lucent, and he ranked as runner-up in Institutional Investor’s 2008 and 2010 surveys for the sector.
