George Schaefer – Fifth Third Bancorp (fitb)

GEORGE A. SCHAEFER, JR. has been President and CEO of Fifth Third Bancorp/Fifth Third Bank since January 1990. He was hired in 1971 as a Management Trainee. He became the President and Chief Operating Officer in April 1989. Mr. Schaefer is a member of the Cincinnati Business Committee; Board Member of the University of Cincinnati; Board Member of the United Appeal; Board Member of Children's Hospital Medical Center; Board Member of the Dan Beard Council of the Boy Scouts of America; Board Member of the Greater Cincinnati Chamber of Commerce; Board Member of the Health Alliance of Greater Cincinnati; Board Member of the Cincinnati Institute of Fine Arts, and Board Member of The Taft Museum. Mr. Schaefer was in the U.S. Army Europe from 1967 to 1969; U.S. Army Vietnam, 1969-1970, Bronze Star. Mr. Schaefer has a BS in Engineering from U.S. Military Academy, West Point, 1967, and an MBA in Finance from Xavier University, 1974. He is married with three children. Profile
