JEFFREY D. MODELL is President and Portfolio Manager of New Century
Investment Management, Incorporated, a boutique firm specializing in
managing equity portfolios. He was born January 24, 1960, is married and
has two children. Mr. Modell has a Bachelor of Business Administration
with High Distinction from the University of Michigan School of Business
Administration, Ann Arbor, Michigan (1981); an accounting major, he
passed the Uniform CPA examination. He also holds a Juris Doctor Magna
Cum Laude from the University of Michigan Law School, Ann Arbor,
Michigan (1985), where he was elected to The Order of the Coif, and a
Contributing Editor of the 'Michigan Law Review'. Mr. Modell was self-
employed as a private investor from 1983 until organization of New
Century in 1994. His credentials include silk stocking legal experience
with the Washington D.C. tax law firm Ivins, Phillips & Barker Chartered
(1985-1987) and Detroit regional legal powerhouse Honigman Miller
Schwartz and Cohn (1987-1989), as well as private practice, simultaneous
with some of the private investing. His legal experience include
investment-related fields such as: estate planning for complex estates,
trusts (including charitable trusts), corporate taxation, ERISA with
emphasis on plan investments and fiduciary responsibility, due diligence
and negotiation for investments, and environmental law. Mr. Modell has
been interviewed by, and published in, a variety of business and

TWST: In prior interviews we've talked about New Century's programs andportfolio construction methods, in addition to stock-picking. I wonder
if it is timely to revisit the small cap arena and the
