John C. Abbott is the Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the board of Quepasa Corporation, owner of North American platform myYearbook and Latin American platform Quepasa. He was appointed CEO and Chairman in October 2007. In 2008, Quepasa transitioned from a Latino-oriented portal to a social network focusing on meeting people. In November 2011, Quepasa acquired Web and mobile platform, myYearbook. Since the merger, Mr. Abbott has been working to expand the company’s international footprint ahead of the internationalization of the MeetMe platform in 2012. Previously, he held several senior positions within JP Morgan’s Latin America mergers and acquisitions team. TWST: Would you begin with a brief historical sketch of Quepasa and a picture of the things that you are doing at the present time?
Mr. Abbott: Quepasa was founded in 1997 as a Latino portal.
