WILLIAM G. HARGETT was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer
and became a member of The Houston Exploration Company's Board of
Directors in April 2001, and in June 2004 he was named Chairman of the
Board. Previously, Mr. Hargett was President, North America of Santa Fe
Snyder Corporation, and prior to that he was President, Chief Operating
Officer and a member of the Board of Directors of Snyder Oil Company. He
also served as President for Greenhill Petroleum Corporation, Amax Oil
and Gas Inc. and North Central Oil Corporation. In addition, Mr. Hargett
was employed in various exploration roles at Tenneco Oil Corporation and
Amoco Production Company. He earned a Bachelor's degree and a Master's
