DAVID A. SEMPLE joined Van Eck Global as a Director, International
Equity in February 1998. A veteran of emerging markets investing,
Institutional Investor ranked him among the top Asia strategists in
1996. Mr. Semple manages Van Eck's Emerging Markets Fund, Asia Dynasty
Fund and Worldwide Emerging Markets Fund. He is also adviser for the
Worldwide Absolute Return Fund. His primary responsibilities include
asset allocation and stock selection in global emerging markets. Prior
to joining the firm, Mr. Semple was Regional Strategist at Peregrine
Brokerage. He joined Peregrine in 1993 after serving as Head of Emerging
Markets at Murray Johnstone, a United Kingdom investment management
company. There, he was also an investment manager specializing in Asian
equity markets. Mr. Semple graduated with an Honors degree in Law and a
Diploma in Legal Practice from the University of Edinburgh and practiced
law in Scotland. He became an Associate of the Institute of Investment
