MICHAEL J. BROWN SR. is President and Chief Executive Officer of
Harbor Florida Bancshares, Inc. He received a BSc with a major in
Finance from St. Louis University in 1962. He began his banking
career with Prudential Savings & Loan in Clayton, Missouri, in
1964, ultimately becoming CFO. In 1972, he moved to University
Federal Savings & Loan in Coral Gables, Florida, to be Senior
Vice President and CFO. He then moved to Fort Pierce, Florida, in
1974 to work for Harbor Federal (then First Federal of Fort
Pierce) as Senior Vice President of Operations. Mr. Brown was
elected President and Chief Executive Officer in July 1976 and
Director of Harbor Federal in August 1977. Mr. Brown has served
or is presently serving on many community, state and national
organizations. Some of the local organizations include St. Lucie
County Economic Development Council, past-President; Columbia
Lawnwood Regional Medical Center, past-President of Board of
Trustees; Rotary Club, past-President; St. Lucie County Chamber
of Commerce, past-President; and Sunrise Theatre Board of
Directors. Some of the state and national organizations include
America's Community Bankers, Director; Florida Bankers
Association, Director; Florida Savings and Loan League, past-
President; and Advisory Board of Federal Home Mortgage
Corporation. He also served as co-Chair for the 1994 and 1998 Jeb
Bush for Governor Campaign in St. Lucie County. Profile
