ROY M. WHITEHEAD, President and Chief Executive Officer of
Washington Federal, Inc., joined the company in September 1998.
He was named President of the company in March 1999 and Chief
Executive Officer in October 2000. Mr. Whitehead has over 27
years' experience at both commercial banks and thrifts, most
recently as regional Vice President of Wells Fargo's South Texas
Region. Prior to its acquisition by Wells Fargo, he was President
of First Interstate Bank of Colorado. During his career, Mr.
Whitehead also served in executive positions at Fortune Bank, a
$2.5 billion thrift in Clearwater, Florida, First Union
Corporation in Tampa, Florida, and Texas American Bank in Dallas,
Texas. He began his banking career as an examiner for the Federal
Reserve Bank of Dallas. He holds a degree in Business
Administration and Finance from the University of South Carolina
and is a graduate of the Southwestern Graduate School of Banking. Profile
