PETER BARRETT was appointed Executive Vice President and Chief Business
Officer of Celera Genomics Group when the formation of the company was
announced in 1998. Dr. Barrett is chiefly responsible for business
development, marketing and sales, and customer support. From 1995, Dr.
Barrett was Vice President, Corporate Planning and Business Development,
of the PE Corporation. He was a member of the team of corporate officers
responsible for the company's direction and management, focusing on
strategic planning, mergers and acquisitions, and new business
development for its analytical and life science businesses. Since he
joined the company in 1979, Dr. Barrett has held a number of managerial
roles in the United States and Europe. He served as Director, European
Marketing, in Germany, where he established the company's European Sales
and Service Center. Dr. Barrett returned to the United States in 1990 as
Vice President, Instruments Division, and shortly thereafter was
appointed Vice President, Life Science Division. In 1993, he became
Executive Vice President, Applied Biosystems Division. He was elected
Vice President, Worldwide Sales and Service, and a corporate officer in
1994. Dr. Barrett received his Bachelor's degree in Chemistry from
Lowell Technological Institute and his PhD in Analytical Chemistry from
Northeastern University in Boston. He is a graduate of the Program in
