TWST: Shall we start with a brief introduction and corporate sketch of BioTissue Technologies (Frankfurt: 618061.F)?

Dr. Tiegermann: BioTissue Technologies is a small biotech and tissue engineering company based in Freiburg in Germany and founded in 1997 as a spin off of the Freiburg University Hospital. The company has been focusing on the field of tissue engineering for medical purposes. We have a broad range of projects and products manufactured in our own laboratory, cultivating human tissue from the patient’s own cells, i.e. autologous tissues. The company has been listed on the Neuer Markt segment of the Frankfurt Stock Exchange under SIN 618061 since December 2000.

TWST: You are a development company rather than a research company?

Dr. Tiegermann: That’s right. We are a development company. The basic research comes from two well-known laboratories: one is at the University of Freiburg and the other is at the University Charité in Berlin. These well-known labs have been doing a lot of tissue engineering research for the last 10 years. We acquired some of these technologies and the patents which come with these technologies in the last two years step by step. We have been taking these projects from the basic research level, develop them further and scale them up. We go for the registrations in Germany and other countries. We also manage clinical studies, proving both the clinical effectiveness as well as the economic impact of these products. In summary, we bring added value which we sell or license to companies that are involved in a specific medical area, such as orthopedics, dermatology, dentistry and so on.

TWST: What are some of the questions analysts and investors are asking you?

Dr. Tiegermann: We have coverage by different analyst teams in Germany, for example by the Landesbank Baden-Wuerttemberg, the DZ Bank and more. Tissue engineering is in its infancy and there are no past benchmarks for comparison. This makes it a hard job for analysts. So the main questions are how fast this industry will grow, how big the markets will be and what market share this technology can capture from traditional treatment methods. In other words, they are watching us very closely if we achieve our goals and how we are prepared for the future. Also, biotech companies now must prove that their products are well-received by the markets. The same is true for BioTissue. We have very good products, but now we have to prove that we can sell them and to do this we need strong partners. This is my major activity right know, trying to define or identify these partners and setup collaborations which will ensure our future growth.

TWST: As a summary, when you have a chance to sit down with investors what are the two or three main reasons you give for them to take a close look at BioTissue?

Dr. Tiegermann: I think BioTissue Technologies AG is one of the world’s leading tissue engineering companies with a great knowledge of how to culture different types of cells. There is no other company that has a portfolio of five products already on the market. This company has another three, four or five products in the development pipeline, which may contribute to this new generation of tissue engineering products within the next five years. So I think these are the two major key points for BioTissue that I would address to the investors.
